How Electrolux Central Vacuum Systems became
the world's leading manufacturer of central vacuum systems...

Electrolux Central Vacuum Systems, headquartered in Webster City, Iowa, began operation as Beam Manufacturing Company, producing washing machines, dishwashers, and Beam "Doodlebug" scooters. The scooters became famous during World War II when gasoline rationing came into effect.

In 1957, Beam Manufacturing Company was sold and Beam Industries emerged with R.L. Sampson at the helm. The company focused solely on central vacuum systems. John Coghlan who retired in March of 2006, after 18 years as Beam Industries' president, lead Beam Industries to become the undisputed technology and market leader in the central vacuum industry.

Russell S. Minick, the third president of Beam Industries, joined the company in June 2006 with a pledge to work toward making central vacuum systems a staple in new American homes.

Minick says with the Beam brand of central vacuum he is committed to achieving a goal of having 75 percent of all new U.S. homes primed for central vacuums by 2010 and to continue to grow Beam market leadership in Canada and internationally.

"Our products are important contributors to green building. Consumers want a healthier living environment and we can help builders provide it," Minick says.

On January 1, 2007 Beam Industries became known as Electrolux Central Vacuum Systems featuring the central vacuum brands of Beam, Eureka and Electrolux.

Beam Central Vacuum Systems are attractive, affordable built-in appliances that appeal to a range of homeowners as well as the commercial sector. A system consists of a combination power unit/dirt collection receptacle, power brush, and hose and cleaning accessories for whole-home cleaning.

Pre-packaged kits, a detailed installation manual and video make a Beam Central Vacuum System easy for do-it-yourselfers to install. In addition to new homes, 95% of today's existing homes can be retrofitted with a central vacuum system.

Beam success is the result of the work ethic and dedication of its employees. Through their hard work, diligence and determination, Electrolux Central Vacuum Systems has become the world's leading manufacturer and marketer of central vacuum systems. Approximately one-third of all central vacuum systems are produced at the Webster City, Iowa plant. The company also is the global market leader. Beam, Electrolux and Eureka Central Vacuum Systems and accessories are sold in more than 50 countries.
